Single Story House Plans For Contemporary 3 Bedroom Home (1)

The intentionally subdued appearance of this house begins to change as you approach it. It’s only then that you notice how the entire front of the house steps out and in, and thus the gables project at different lengths. This produces a much more interesting look and feel on the inside. Another unique interior feature involves the ceilings. While all the rooms have ceilings set at a lofty 10′, all but two rooms (bedrooms 2 and 3) have a 28″–wide soffit around the outer edge set at 9′. Details like these, along with angled interior walls, create a house that’s not only beautiful and functional, but also unique.

The covered entry is bracketed by the dining room and the garage, and topped by a recessed gable roof. The glazed door has windows on either side and a wide transom above, allowing light to fill the foyer space. Once you step into the house, there’s a formal dining room on your right and a den/study on your left. Wide cased openings and a short angled wall give the dining room its square shape (reinforced by the soffit around the outer edge) while allowing it to be open to the living areas of the house. Light and views are provided by a wide window facing the front. While any type of table would work, the shape of the room lends itself to a round or oval shape.

Double doors set at an angle to the foyer open to the den/study. A trio of arched windows span half of the far wall. A short hallway next to the doors to this room passes a coat closet and a powder room before reaching the doors to the master suite. The master bedroom is quite spacious, and windows on two walls provide lots of natural light, views in two directions, and the ability to have cross–ventilation. The bath area has a wide window, two separated sinks with a vanity next to one of them, an extra large shower, and a private toilet. A door at the far end opens to a large walk–in closet with a window.

The living areas are straight ahead from the foyer, and the great room, kitchen and nook are open to each other. The 9’–high soffit encircles all three spaces, and the ceiling over the kitchen area is also set at 9′. A three–sided peninsula counter with a 42″–high wall on the outer side provides a visual separation from the great room, along with tons of counter space. The sinks are in the center section facing the great room, so that the person doing the dishes can enjoy any activity taking place there. There’s plenty of room for an island in the middle of the kitchen, and there’s a walk–in pantry in one corner. A cased opening provides easy access to the dining room.

The casual dining nook is filled with light during the day thanks to bay windows that look out to and through the covered patio at the rear of the house. A glass door between the nook and the great room opens to this patio area, which is both wide and deep. The great room has a recessed fireplace and built–in entertainment center on the far wall that can be enjoyed from the kitchen and the nook, and three wide windows look out to the patio.

A short hall between the great room and the dining room leads past a door to the three–car garage before reaching bedrooms 2 and 3 and the conveniently located laundry room. Pull–down stairs in the laundry provide attic access, and a built–in desk and drawers sit beneath a window at the far end of the room. The entryways to both bedrooms are angled at 45–degrees, just like the opening to the den, and the bedrooms share a full bath situated between them. Having the two bedrooms on the opposite side of the house from the master suite provides privacy in a one–story house.
