Parking in Maui

  • Parking garages and lots – by the beaches you’ll find plenty of garages and lots that accept coins, card or app payment. Spaces fill up quickly so be sure to get down early.
  • Free parking – Lahainia and Kaanapali have several free parking lots convenientlylocated if you want to hit the shops. Some lots require you to buy something anddisplay the stub from a nearby store to qualify for free parking – so check signs before you leave.
  • On street parking – street parking is payable by meter or app and available in busy areas, but you’ll need to be early to secure a spot as spaces get snapped up quick.

Traffic in Maui

Traffic on the island gets busy between 6.30am and 9.30am, then between 3.30pm and 6.30pm. Leave yourself plenty of time for your journey if you need to travel during these times.

Roads and freeways in Maui

Maui is well connected by the Hana Highway and several main roads:

  • Route37- this 24-mile stretch that connects Haleakala Highway toHana Highwayand Kula Highway is one of Maui’s most travelled routes, with scenic spots such as Twin Falls and Paia town along the way.
  • Haleakala Highway – this runs fromHana Highwayto the Dairy Road/Keolani Place intersection (Route36A)
  • Kahului Airport Access Road (Route380) – this road connects Hana Highway to Lanui Loop.

Kahului Airport to the West Maui Mountains

The journey from touching down at Kahului Airport to reaching the beautiful West Maui Mountains takes around 15 minutes. Head south-west on Lanui Cir towards Airport Rd, then join the state highway 36 and take Kaahumanu Avenue before continuing Main Street and Leo Valley Road into the heart of the mountains
